Join us on a 4-day adventure to search this land of red soil and rugged landscapes for species common here and often difficult to find anywhere else in Australia. Based in Alice Springs we explore the surrounding desert landscape for a host of fascinating birds. From camels to dingo's mammals can put in an appearance as well. On cloudness nights the desert night sky puts on a glorious show that seems to go on forever. For those with Ayers Rock/Uluru on their absolute must-do list, a one-day non-birding excursion is included in your tour price to visit this iconic landmark.

TRIP III Tropical Queensland + Great Barrier Reef

Queensland's rich rainforests are home to one of the largest birds in the world, the cassowary. We will begin our tour searching for this endangered huge icon of the deep forest. Then off to search for the dimunitive little Double-eyed Fig-Parrot and a host of other species that make their home in the wet tropical forests not far from the city of Cairns.
We take time to view the areas mammals as well. Huge Fruit bats make an appearance right in the city center, while the surrounding countryside gives views of platypus and rock wallabies. A scenic drive through the Atherton Tablelands can yield spectacular Red-tailed Black-cockatoos, while tropical dove species and honeyeaters galore wow their audience. We finish up with a day of sun and sea exploring the Great Barrier Reef with its colorful fish and island-nesting seabirds.

Known all over Australia for its rare mammals and threatened birdlife, Bowra’s permanent waterholes create a rich oasis for many species. Waiting quietly at one of these water sources one can spend hours observing flocks of thirsty parrots and many other bird species that are drawn here like a magnet from the surrounding dry mulga countryside.
Leaving Bowra we travel to world heritage Lamington National Park a modest drive from Brisbane. Amid the dense leafy understory Eastern Whipbirds call while uncommon Regent Bowerbirds show off their dazzlingly brilliant gold and black plumage. At this gorgeous location we're guests at world-famous O’Reilly’s Rainforest retreat. Close up views of striking King-parrots and Crimson Rosellas are only part of the many opportunites to photograph and discover a host of spectacular species.

Beginning our tour in the city of Adelaide we explore the surrounding areas keeping alert for a host of fascinating birds. From spectacular Honeyeaters to zipping flocks of Lorikeets we comb through the blossoming gum trees for colorful bird species. This tour offers the most diverse number of parrot species anywhere. It's hard not to be impressed by huge Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoos and snow-white Corellas.
At Gluepot Reserve the sky is the limit for amazing birds. Photo opportunites here are often unrivaled as we hunker down in blinds and wait for birds coming down to drink. The rare and jewel like Scarlet-chested parrot has even been to known to nest here. A days drive to the state of Victoria we revel in the beauty of Major Mitchell's Cockatoos at Wyperfeld National Park then head to the scenic Grampian Mountains. This is the only locale that offers views of the amazing little Gang-gang Cockatoo. Not just birds, this trip provides some of the best opportunities to see several species of Kangaroos up close and personal.
